The club was founded in 1954 out of the youth club which was resident at St Patrick's in Braddon. The inspiration for the formation of the club being an enigmatic Irish priest named  Father Benedict "Barney" Lynch who had been a Hurling player back in the old country before being introduced to Hockey while on a posting to Crookwell.
